In this day and age, when we can design or do whatever we want, almost everything is DIY (do it yourself). You can buy your own DIY kitchen, made according to your own personal specifications, a DIY bedroom, and a DIY bathroom. And on a far smaller scale, you can even make your own stamps!
If you do a little bit of research on Google, you will soon find a wealth of sites that will help you make your own stamps according to your personal specifications. Before long, you can enjoy your very own celebration of self as your beautiful visage looks back at you from on the front of an envelope that you wish to send to some lucky recipient somewhere around the world.
But what would motivate you to want to make your own stamps in the first place? The easiest answer to this question, of course, is vanity. After all, if you live in the United Kingdom, you may feel rather resentful of the fact that Queen Elizabeth, whether as a photograph or as a silhouette, appears on every single stamp issued by the Royal Mail. “If she can do it, why can’t I?” you may reason. These days, the Royal Mail does offer you the opportunity of putting your face upon a stamp. But you have to take into account the fact that you will still be sharing the limelight with the Queen, whose silhouette will still appear in the upper right-hand corner of the stamp, making it a legal means for mailing letters.
But this is only one part of the story. When you make your own stamps, you may not be motivated by vanity at all. Perhaps it isn’t even your picture that you wish to place upon the stamps. Maybe it’s the week of the anniversary of your Grandma’s passing, and you want to honor her memory by putting her picture on a series of postage stamps that you will then send around the family. That would be a very dignified and memorable way to commemorate a person that you loved.
Another reason to make your own stamps may be that you are about to get married. Perhaps you would like to put a picture of yourself and your soon-to-be other half on the stamps that you wish to use for mailing the invitations. Once again, this is a fitting and original way to remember one of the most important days of your life. Plus, your guests will likely enjoy the mail they receive with your picture on it.
There are many ways to make your own stamps, and the more creative you are, the better they will come out. You don’t only have to choose your own photographs. Perhaps you are making your own stamps because there is a specific message that you want to put across. For this, you can also use other pictures, or choose themes such as nature, flowers, animals, or culture to create your own design. The sky’s the limit. All you need is an imagination.
